Road to the World Cup: Joe Root

England’s Mr. Consistent is up and running in this World Cup! Here we look back on some of his best ODI centuries.

100* v India – 17 July 2018, Headingley

This century has gone down as arguably his most iconic in white-ball cricket.

On his home ground in Leeds, Root led England to victory in the match to secure a 2-1 series win.

Hitting the winning runs to win the game and bring up his century, out came the now iconic bat drop celebration!

104 v New Zealand – 17 June 2015, Edgbaston

In England's first ODI since their disappointing World Cup, the whole team put on a show as they began on a new path with their one-day cricket.

Root was at the heart of this as he showed his range of gears, hitting 104 from only 78 balls to help England to pass 400 for the very first time.

This match and series against New Zealand marked a refresh for England's ODI side with Root moving back to batting at number three part of this.

102 v West Indies – 20 February 2019, Barbados

The West Indies had set England a formidable 364 runs for victory but any notion of panic or doubt couldn't have been further from the minds of the England batsmen.

Root was calmness personified, highlighting his ability under pressure with a well paced innings which took England to the brink of victory.

125 v South Africa – 9 February 2016, Centurion

In the backyard of one of the best sides in the world, Root proved himself against the best with two centuries in the series against South Africa.

His hundred at Centurion stood out as he hammered 15 boundaries including 5 sixes to take England to a competitive total. Although they would go on to lose the match, this century at Centurion goes down as one of Root's best.
